safegit is a git CLI built to be handed to AI agents, for setups where several agent sessions commit to the same repository at once. Each commit stages through its own temporary index and updates refs under per-ref locks, so concurrent commits never mix files, and an operation log records every change so the last operation can be undone. It implements a deliberate subset of git and produces ordinary git commits. safegit is written in Go; the source is mirrored at github.com/stricttools/safegit.

What it does
- A two-phase commit pipeline with per-invocation temporary index files, so concurrent sessions never race on
.git/index - Ref updates use per-ref locks with compare-and-swap retry, so concurrent commits to the same branch serialize correctly
- An append-only operation log records every mutation
- The output is standard git commits -- teammates, CI and code review tools see nothing unusual
safegit undoreverses the last safegit-authored operation using the oplog- A deliberate subset of git, with every omission recorded in the divergences document
